From the Depths: Creating Art With Meaning (Michelle Gardella)
Limited Capacity seats available

It is no coincidence that you were given the gift and calling to be a photographer. There are stories to share that only you know how to tell. So often, however, we become so bound by the expectations and experiences of others, that we forget why we came to art in the first place. This is where Michelle Gardella comes in. As a photographer and writer she is brave and unapologetically honest, and as a teacher, even more so. She stands for the preservation of truthful and meaningful photography, and devotes her creative journey to ensuring women's stories are not silenced; including her own. Passionate, funny, and most likely with references to early 90s rap songs, Michelle's program will serve to remind the modern day photographer what this is really all about, after all.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn to use photography as metaphor.
2. Be attentive to the flow of inspiration in your own true story; learn to turn off the noise and comparisons.
3 Make real photographs with depth and meaning.

Creating Beauty: Off-Camera Flash in the Golden Hour (Rachel Nielsen)
Limited Capacity seats available

Rachel is sponsored by Miller's Professional Imaging
http://www.millerslab.com

Canon is the host of this Golden Hour Shooting Experience program.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home. Rachel uses a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon lenses including: 24-105L, 85 1.8, and 70-200L 2.8 II.

Have you always wanted to learn how to use your speedlight off camera? In this Golden Hour Shooting Experience, Rachel Nielsen will teach you how to create beautiful golden hour and sunset images using your speedlight. She will walk you through where to place your light, demonstrate correct and incorrect shadow placement, and show you how to use your speedlight in manual mode for gorgeous images! Attendees will practice on a female model, so don't forget to bring your own speedlight if you'd like to gain hands-on experience.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn where to place your speedlight in relation to your subjects.
2. Learn how to use your speedlight in manual mode.
3. Learn correct and incorrect shadow placement.

This Golden Hour Shooting Experience will take place at Mission San Jose (just a short 15 minute bus ride from the Marriott Rivercenter). Established in 1720, and known as the "Queen of the Missions," San Jose is the showpiece of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and tells the early story of San Antonio and European expansion in the New World.

The grounds of Mission San Jose is a huge area (over six acres inside the gates) that gives you ample room to photograph kids and families at play. The walls provide great framing opportunities, with many windows and doors all around the perimeter. There are also several stone walls (without doors and windows) if you are looking for plain stone backdrops. You’ll also find some interesting arches next to the church and at the entrance - they, along with the repeating doors and windows, give you the opportunity to use repeating elements in your composition. There are a few big trees throughout, but in many areas you’ll see the wide open sky. You’ll be able to use the walls to help you stay in the shade (if that’s what you are after) or partially block the sun. Because the Mission is massive and is outside of the city, you’ll find plenty of space for shooting outside of the walls as well. The outdoor grounds of Mission San Jose have been reserved for Click Away on this evening, so you won't have to work around public visitors. There will be a wedding rehearsal going on inside the Mission San Jose Church, so we ask that you remain on the expansive outdoor grounds rather than venturing inside the church.

Light Play: Creating Emotive Images (Bre Thurston)
Limited Capacity seats available

Bre is sponsored by Miller's Professional Imaging
http://www.millerslab.com

Canon is the host of this Golden Hour Shooting Experience program.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home. Bre uses a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon lenses including: 35L, 85L, 70-200.

Light can be used in many different ways, but how often do you experiment and play with it? In this Golden Hour Shooting Experience, Bre Thurston will show you how to identify beautiful light and demonstrate how to exploit it in several different ways. By simply moving your subject, you can learn to play with back light, side light, direct light, rim light, shadows, and silhouettes. The sun is our most dynamic resource for creating emotive images and in this program you will have the opportunity to photograph a female model. Be ready to get creative and break rules during this fun and interactive session with Bre.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how to recognize all of the natural opportunities around you.
2. Learn how to use difficult lighting options such as direct light or rim light. Understand when to listen to your meter and when to completely ignore it in various lighting situations.
3. Understand how to match your light to the mood of the image you want to take, and also how to match your posing/execution of the image to the light that you are using.
4. See how something as simple as one step in a certain direction can completely change the way you see light.
5. Discuss post processing and the importance of matching editing to the natural feel of the light (for example, backlight works well with warm post processing, rim light looks great in black and white, and more).

Join Alison Winterroth in this Golden Hour Shooting Experience in which she will cover posing and creative ideas to click your standard headshot up a notch. And before the end of the night, you will have the opportunity to practice your new skills and work with fellow attendees to capture headshots of each other.

Established in 1724 as Mission San Antonio de Valero – the first mission in San Antonio – the Alamo is known as the "Shrine of Texas Liberty" and is the number one tourist destination in Texas.

The Alamo has two distinct features— the buildings/walls and the lush greenery. Access to the buildings and walls is fairly easy from outside the Alamo itself or at several points inside the gates. The greenery provides full or partial coverage, allowing you to play with the amount of natural light as well as the direction. Even though you’ll be able to see other photographers due to the layout of the Alamo, you’ll find that creative use of the greenery can give a very private, or “Secret Garden,” feel to your images. There are several benches at a number of places within the walls. If you head outside the gates, you’ll find a bigger common area and more bright, unobstructed sunlight. The Alamo has been reserved for Click Away on this evening, so you won't have to work around public visitors if you plan to remain inside the gates near the Alamo gardens.

The Alamo has been reserved for Click Away on this evening, so you won't have to work around public visitors if you plan to remain inside the gates near the Alamo gardens.

The Styled Maternity Session: Crafting Beautiful Sessions with Real Clients (Maggie Keegan Gross)
Limited Capacity seats available

Maggie is sponsored by Miller's Professional Imaging
http://www.millerslab.com

Canon is the host of this Golden Hour Shooting Experience program.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home. Maggie
uses a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon lenses including: 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, 35mm 1.4.

In this Golden Hour Shooting Experience, Maggie Keegan Gross of Just Maggie Photography will demonstrate how to create a gorgeous maternity session for each and every client. She’ll explain how to prepare your client, how to teach them what to wear, how to build a wardrobe closet to offer your clients to help define their style while being true to your brand, and how to pamper your client to make her feel her best. She’ll then walk you through foundational posing to ensure every pregnant mom looks her best while creating honest, natural images with emotion in the client’s face and body language. You’ll also learn to capture connection between mom and baby, and mom and dad. Lastly, she’ll teach you how maternity sessions can make a big impact on your business, allowing you to stand out in your market and create loyal clients.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn foundational posing to flatter pregnant women.
2. Learn how to capture emotion and connections.
3. Learn how to use maternity portraits to help you stand out in your market and create loyal clients.

The Alamo:
This Golden Hour Shooting Experience will take place at the Alamo (just a short walk from the Marriott Rivercenter).

About Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard:
One of the first commercial olive orchards in Texas, Sandy Oaks is 20 minutes south of San Antonio. While best known for the olive trees, olive oil and the various olive oil and olive leaf based skin care products it produces, Sandy Oaks is also celebrated for its emphasis on hospitality and educating the public on the benefits and various uses of olive oil. The main orchard itself covers a 40-acre tract of the ranch, with some 11,000 trees planted among the massive live oaks dotting the property. A nursery holds up to 10,000 or more olive seedlings and shoots at any one time. Sandy stocks the trees to expand her orchard and to sell to others who would like to join in the adventure of growing olive trees.
