Making Magic: Stylized Sessions that Capture the Sparkle of Childhood (Shalonda Chaddock)
Limited Capacity seats available

Learn how to conceptualize and create magical photographs that capture the true spirit of childhood from one of the industry’s most recognized child photographers. Join Shalonda Chaddock of Chubby Cheek Photography as she shares her approach to creating stylized photos of children, including working with parents and children, using light, finding locations, sourcing and creating props, and sharing images with her audience. See how Shalonda creates a bridge between reality and fantasy with a peek behind the scenes at her process for styled mini-sessions and her "All About Me" styled sessions. Shalonda will share stories about balancing work life and motherhood, and talk about photographing her own children and how she keeps it fun for her own kids. She will discuss how children see the world in an unfiltered way, but at some point in life photographers tend to become aware that others are watching closely and we begin to pull back and shield ourselves. Shalonda will talk about that magic-stealer called self-doubt and how she manages to keep it at bay and create images that make her heart sing.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn tried and true methods for recognizing and developing concepts that make photo shoots fun for kids and that feature their true personalities.
2. Understand the behind the scenes considerations involved in creating magical photos of children.

Mission San Jose:
This Golden Hour Shooting Experience will take place at Mission San Jose (just a short 15 minute bus ride from the Marriott Rivercenter). Established in 1720, and known as the "Queen of the Missions," San Jose is the showpiece of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and tells the early story of San Antonio and European expansion in the New World.

The grounds of Mission San Jose is a huge area (over six acres inside the gates) that gives you ample room to photograph kids and families at play. The walls provide great framing opportunities, with many windows and doors all around the perimeter. There are also several stone walls (without doors and windows) if you are looking for plain stone backdrops. You’ll also find some interesting arches next to the church and at the entrance - they, along with the repeating doors and windows, give you the opportunity to use repeating elements in your composition. There are a few big trees throughout, but in many areas you’ll see the wide open sky. You’ll be able to use the walls to help you stay in the shade (if that’s what you are after) or partially block the sun. Because the Mission is massive and is outside of the city, you’ll find plenty of space for shooting outside of the walls as well. The outdoor grounds of Mission San Jose have been reserved for Click Away on this evening, so you won't have to work around public visitors. There will be a wedding rehearsal going on inside the Mission San Jose Church, so we ask that you remain on the expansive outdoor grounds rather than venturing inside the church.

Dogs in the Golden Hour: Using Natural and Artificial Light (Nicole Begley)
Limited Capacity seats available

Nicole is a Canon shooter and Canon is the host of this Golden Hour Shooting Experience program.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home

Off-camera lighting provides a photographer with many additional options with which to create a range of images. Join pet photographer Nicole Begley to learn about different types of off-camera lighting as well as the basics of how to balance ambient lighting with off-camera lighting. Not only will this course cover working with a strobe and beauty dish to create dramatic images during the Golden Hour, but it will also incorporate photographing pets, through the use of live dogs, using both off-camera and natural lighting techniques. *Attendees of this session will need to sign an animal handling release form.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn different off-camera lighting options available for pet work.
2. Work with natural light on a pet photography session during golden hour.
3. Work with off-camera lighting during a pet photography session during golden hour.

River Walk:
This Golden Hour Shooting Experience will take place at the San Antonio River Walk (just a short walk from the Marriott Rivercenter). The San Antonio River Walk is a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River, one story beneath the streets of Downtown San Antonio. The River Walk winds and loops under bridges, is flanked by two parallel sidewalks lined with restaurants and shops, and connects the major tourist sites including the Alamo, Rivercenter Mall and La Villita.

There are some great shooting spaces along the River Walk within easy walking distance of the Marriott Rivercenter. While the River Walk may feel narrow close to the hotel, as you move away from the hotel (in the direction of the Convention Center), you’ll find that space opens up quite a bit. And, of course, along the way you’ll find interesting details worth photographing. As you walk along the water, you’ll see a few areas up off of the water (next to hotels) that give you a bit of a “courtyard” feel. As you head to the Convention Center (the access point on the river), you’ll find a lot of space — both covered and uncovered — by the water.

Focus on Successful Family Portraiture (Jackie Jean Acosta)
Limited Capacity seats available

Join Jackie Jean Acosta in a family session that will teach you how to separate yourself from the pack in terms of creativity while also gaining repeat business. Jackie will cover how to deliver a successful family portrait session from the pre-planning consultation to interacting with clients to final delivery of the finished product. Create genuine candid moments between family members and build confidence in taking family portraits.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how to stylize family sessions and pre-plan posing.
2. Learn how to capture real emotion and personality.
3. Learn how to create genuine rapport and a lasting connection with your clients.

Light Play: Creating Emotive Images (Bre Thurston)
Limited Capacity seats available

Bre is sponsored by Miller's Professional Imaging

Canon is the host of this Golden Hour Shooting Experience program.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home. Bre uses a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon lenses including: 35L, 85L, 70-200.

Light can be used in many different ways, but how often do you experiment and play with it? In this Golden Hour Shooting Experience, Bre Thurston will show you how to identify beautiful light and demonstrate how to exploit it in several different ways. By simply moving your subject, you can learn to play with back light, side light, direct light, rim light, shadows, and silhouettes. The sun is our most dynamic resource for creating emotive images and in this program you will have the opportunity to photograph a female model. Be ready to get creative and break rules during this fun and interactive session with Bre.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how to recognize all of the natural opportunities around you.
2. Learn how to use difficult lighting options such as direct light or rim light. Understand when to listen to your meter and when to completely ignore it in various lighting situations.
3. Understand how to match your light to the mood of the image you want to take, and also how to match your posing/execution of the image to the light that you are using.
4. See how something as simple as one step in a certain direction can completely change the way you see light.
5. Discuss post processing and the importance of matching editing to the natural feel of the light (for example, backlight works well with warm post processing, rim light looks great in black and white, and more).

Authentic Connections During an Outdoor Session (Brittany Chandler)

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home. Brit uses a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon lenses including a 24mm lens.

During this Golden Hour session, Brit Chandler will portray how she interacts with clients to achieve authentic expressions that are more than just happy faces. Attendees will learn how to evoke natural and real connections with clients, specifically in an outdoor setting. Watch as she eases clients with gentle directions, and breaks down walls with simple interactions between her and her subjects. Brit will talk you through what she is doing and why as she demonstrates photographing a family.

Learning objectives:
1. Attendees will learn confidence when it comes to client interactions.
2. Learn to provoke natural and authentic expressions from your own family or from clients.
3. Understand how to direct and interact with clients in a natural, unforced way.

The Alamo:
This Golden Hour Shooting Experience will take place at the Alamo (just a short walk from the Marriott Rivercenter). Established in 1724 as Mission San Antonio de Valero – the first mission in San Antonio – the Alamo is known as the "Shrine of Texas Liberty" and is the number one tourist destination in Texas.

The Alamo has two distinct features— the buildings/walls and the lush greenery. Access to the buildings and walls is fairly easy from outside the Alamo itself or at several points inside the gates. The greenery provides full or partial coverage, allowing you to play with the amount of natural light as well as the direction. Even though you’ll be able to see other photographers due to the layout of the Alamo, you’ll find that creative use of the greenery can give a very private, or “Secret Garden,” feel to your images. There are several benches at a number of places within the walls. If you head outside the gates, you’ll find a bigger common area and more bright, unobstructed sunlight. The Alamo has been reserved for Click Away on this evening, so you won't have to work around public visitors if you plan to remain inside the gates near the Alamo gardens.

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home. Alice uses a Canon 5D Mark III, and Canon lenses including: 35L, 135L, 100L.

Join Alice Che for a self portrait shoot in the golden hour and learn about all the considerations that go into it -- everything from how to be safe with your camera and how to focus and get the right composition to choosing a certain angle and type of lighting to achieve your vision. In this session, you will troubleshoot alongside Alice to become more comfortable with the entire process of self portraiture. Although not required, for those who would like to put their new knowledge to use Alice strongly encourage bringing a tripod and shutter remote.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how to take a self portrait outdoors.
2. Learn to set up a tripod and ensure that it is safe.
3. Learn to use a shutter remote versus an interval timer.
4. Learn how to use lighting and angle to affect the mood of your image.
5. Learn different ways to achieve good focus (especially if there's no one to stand in for you.)

Unposed: Everyday On-Location Family Photography (Lauren Mitchell)
Limited Capacity seats available

This class is for photographers interested in capturing authentic, un-posed moments in the lives of clients, family and friends. Lauren Mitchell will share her approach to photographing families in-home or at a location that is part of their everyday lives. She will also help you do a little (or a lot) of soul searching to go beyond the surface -- to find your "why" -- in order to connect to clients on a deeper, more meaningful level. This program will include an information-packed discussion on the "hows" and "whys" of storytelling photography, followed by first-hand shooting and participating in an on-location family session.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how to shoot from the heart - know your "why" and access the tools to discover it.
2. Discover beauty in the everyday and mundane. Embrace imperfections and let go of expectations.
3. Learn how to connect with your clients prior to the session to be able to tell their story in the most authentic way possible; understand why talking in person is the key to having a better session.
4. Learn how to compose a photograph in order to tell a more captivating story: create visual depth, frame your subject, anticipate the right moment, shoot from all angles, capture the details, and when to shoot close and when to get the bigger picture.
5. Receive tips for working with families during the shoot, such as knowing how to put them at ease, knowing when to photograph and when to put the camera down, directing families to activities without posing or manipulating a scene, and working with artificial light when natural light isn't possible.
6. Discuss how to cull and edit to be able to get to the essence of the client's shoot.

No matter what genre you shoot or where you are on your photography journey, you will cherish this time to put into practice everything that you learned at Click Away, spend time with new and old friends, and shoot styled models in a gorgeous and unique location unlike what most of us get to experience back home.

About Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard:
One of the first commercial olive orchards in Texas, Sandy Oaks is 20 minutes south of San Antonio. While best known for the olive trees, olive oil and the various olive oil and olive leaf based skin care products it produces, Sandy Oaks is also celebrated for its emphasis on hospitality and educating the public on the benefits and various uses of olive oil. The main orchard itself covers a 40-acre tract of the ranch, with some 11,000 trees planted among the massive live oaks dotting the property. A nursery holds up to 10,000 or more olive seedlings and shoots at any one time. Sandy stocks the trees to expand her orchard and to sell to others who would like to join in the adventure of growing olive trees.
