Making Magic: Stylized Sessions that Capture the Sparkle of Childhood (Shalonda Chaddock)
Limited Capacity seats available

Learn how to conceptualize and create magical photographs that capture the true spirit of childhood from one of the industry’s most recognized child photographers. Join Shalonda Chaddock of Chubby Cheek Photography as she shares her approach to creating stylized photos of children, including working with parents and children, using light, finding locations, sourcing and creating props, and sharing images with her audience. See how Shalonda creates a bridge between reality and fantasy with a peek behind the scenes at her process for styled mini-sessions and her "All About Me" styled sessions. Shalonda will share stories about balancing work life and motherhood, and talk about photographing her own children and how she keeps it fun for her own kids. She will discuss how children see the world in an unfiltered way, but at some point in life photographers tend to become aware that others are watching closely and we begin to pull back and shield ourselves. Shalonda will talk about that magic-stealer called self-doubt and how she manages to keep it at bay and create images that make her heart sing.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn tried and true methods for recognizing and developing concepts that make photo shoots fun for kids and that feature their true personalities.
2. Understand the behind the scenes considerations involved in creating magical photos of children.
3. Learn how Shalonda overcomes self-doubt and tips for how to unapologetically share your own magic with the world.

Life in Motion: Infusing Movement in Family Portraiture (Lisa Tichané)
Limited Capacity seats available

In this program, join Lisa Tichané as she shares how to photograph families as they really are (full of life!), and discover how you can bring your photography (and your business) to the next level by doing so.

In this program you will learn the many benefits of infusing movement in your sessions, discover the tips and tricks to nail these images technically, embrace the power of body language (and how to best use it to your advantage), learn how to use movement to unleash emotions and create memorable images... all while considering how to make it a key factor in the success of your photography business.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn why incorporating motion into your family and child sessions will infuse your images with life, spirit, and authentic emotions.

So often, however, we become so bound by the expectations and experiences of others, that we forget why we came to art in the first place. This is where Michelle Gardella comes in. As a photographer and writer she is brave and unapologetically honest, and as a teacher, even more so. She stands for the preservation of truthful and meaningful photography, and devotes her creative journey to ensuring women's stories are not silenced; including her own. Passionate, funny, and most likely with references to early 90s rap songs, Michelle's program will serve to remind the modern day photographer what this is really all about, after all.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn to use photography as metaphor.
2. Be attentive to the flow of inspiration in your own true story; learn to turn off the noise and comparisons.
3 Make real photographs with depth and meaning.

5. Receive tips for working with families during the shoot, such as knowing how to put them at ease, knowing when to photograph and when to put the camera down, directing families to activities without posing or manipulating a scene, and working with artificial light when natural light isn't possible.

Life in Motion: Infusing Movement in Family Portraiture (Lisa Tichané)
Limited Capacity seats available

Strangely enough, family portraiture is mostly static. It's all about family members posing and looking at the camera, sitting together, or standing in front of a cute background. Life isn't that way. Family life is full of MOTION. Action. Craziness. Laughter. Tantrums. So why is there so little movement in family portraits?

2. Discover how using movement in your sessions can lead to a better experience for your subjects and yourself, while creating a powerful visual experience for the viewer as well.
3. Learn technical and creative tools to produce high impact images (both visually and emotionally).
4. Understand why creating a strong brand based on your photography style is critical for attracting the right clients and keeping them for life.

Join Danielle Hatcher and gain confidence in your skills to capture genuine interaction without anyone looking awkward, silly, or out of place. You will learn games and other tricks that invite genuine interaction with your families. Have fun at this interactive session by getting past "say cheese," and walk away with confidence in applying these new skills into your workflow!

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn the importance of managing client expectations from the beginning.
2. Discuss the importance of a family questionnaire in getting to know your families.
3. Learn tricks and games to play with your client families to get genuine interaction, besides "sitting and smiling" for the camera.

5. Walk away with confidence in applying these new skills into your workflow.

Mission San Jose:
This Golden Hour Shooting Experience will take place at Mission San Jose (just a short 15 minute bus ride from the Marriott Rivercenter). Established in 1720, and known as the "Queen of the Missions," San Jose is the showpiece of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and tells the early story of San Antonio and European expansion in the New World.

The grounds of Mission San Jose is a huge area (over six acres inside the gates) that gives you ample room to photograph kids and families at play. The walls provide great framing opportunities, with many windows and doors all around the perimeter. There are also several stone walls (without doors and windows) if you are looking for plain stone backdrops. You’ll also find some interesting arches next to the church and at the entrance - they, along with the repeating doors and windows, give you the opportunity to use repeating elements in your composition. There are a few big trees throughout, but in many areas you’ll see the wide open sky. You’ll be able to use the walls to help you stay in the shade (if that’s what you are after) or partially block the sun. Because the Mission is massive and is outside of the city, you’ll find plenty of space for shooting outside of the walls as well. The outdoor grounds of Mission San Jose have been reserved for Click Away on this evening, so you won't have to work around public visitors. There will be a wedding rehearsal going on inside the Mission San Jose Church, so we ask that you remain on the expansive outdoor grounds rather than venturing inside the church.

You already have what you need to create cinematic videos about families -- your DSLR with video functionality and a camera strap! Join Emily Mitchell to overcome the learning curve and bring your images to life with motion, voices, and the magic of golden hour light. Handouts on music acquisition and gear list will be provided. Attendees will receive videos on editing after the conclusion of the conference. Attendees should be comfortable shooting in manual mode, and your video mode should allow at least aperture or shutter priority control, although full manual control is preferred. Before attending, you should read your manual and learn how to get your camera into video mode. It is recommended that you bring your manual, a DSLR with video function, a camera strap, and 1 or 2 of your favorite lenses.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn about the job opportunities knowing DSLR video will create for you where you live.
2. Learn how to plan your shoot by familiarizing yourself with gear essentials and extras.
3. Learn about what to look for when scouting locations for dramatic light and how to achieve beautiful rim light, silhouettes, sun flare, and haze.
4. Understand technical information such as choosing the appropriate frame rate, how to stabilize your camera, how to pull focus on a stationary subject (rack focus), how to pull focus on a moving subject, and understand basic camera movements.
5. Learn how to capture quality, clean audio.
6. Learn a few basic rules for composition in the aspect ratio for video.

Authentic Connections During an Outdoor Session (Brittany Chandler)
Limited Capacity seats available

Canon is the host of this Golden Hour Shooting Experience program.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home. Brit uses a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon lenses including a 24mm lens.

During this Golden Hour session, Brit Chandler will portray how she interacts with clients to achieve authentic expressions that are more than just happy faces. Attendees will learn how to evoke natural and real connections with clients, specifically in an outdoor setting. Watch as she eases clients with gentle directions, and breaks down walls with simple interactions between her and her subjects. Brit will talk you through what she is doing and why as she demonstrates photographing a family.

Learning objectives:
1. Attendees will learn confidence when it comes to client interactions.
2. Learn to provoke natural and authentic expressions from your own family or from clients.
3. Understand how to direct and interact with clients in a natural, unforced way.

The Alamo:
This Golden Hour Shooting Experience will take place at the Alamo (just a short walk from the Marriott Rivercenter). Established in 1724 as Mission San Antonio de Valero – the first mission in San Antonio – the Alamo is known as the "Shrine of Texas Liberty" and is the number one tourist destination in Texas.

The Alamo has two distinct features— the buildings/walls and the lush greenery. Access to the buildings and walls is fairly easy from outside the Alamo itself or at several points inside the gates. The greenery provides full or partial coverage, allowing you to play with the amount of natural light as well as the direction. Even though you’ll be able to see other photographers due to the layout of the Alamo, you’ll find that creative use of the greenery can give a very private, or “Secret Garden,” feel to your images. There are several benches at a number of places within the walls. If you head outside the gates, you’ll find a bigger common area and more bright, unobstructed sunlight. The Alamo has been reserved for Click Away on this evening, so you won't have to work around public visitors if you plan to remain inside the gates near the Alamo gardens.

Creating Emotive Lensbaby Portraits Through Movement and Blur (Caroline Jensen)
Limited Capacity seats available

Caroline is sponsored by Lensbaby
http://www.lensbaby.com

Capturing moving subjects with manual focus can be difficult, but this Golden Hour Shooting Experience with Caroline Jensen will share simple techniques for strengthening both of these skills. This program is not a replacement for Caroline's much longer and more in-depth workshop "Shooting 215: Step by Step with Lensbaby" through Clickin Moms University. This 2-hour program is unique and will cover hands-on shooting with Caroline. Please bring your own Lensbaby lenses to this session.

From the Depths: Creating Art With Meaning (Michelle Gardella)
Limited Capacity seats available

It is no coincidence that you were given the gift and calling to be a photographer. There are stories to share that only you know how to tell.

This program will include an information-packed discussion on the "hows" and "whys" of storytelling photography, followed by first-hand shooting and participating in an on-location family session.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how to shoot from the heart - know your "why" and access the tools to discover it.
2. Discover beauty in the everyday and mundane. Embrace imperfections and let go of expectations.
3. Learn how to connect with your clients prior to the session to be able to tell their story in the most authentic way possible; understand why talking in person is the key to having a better session.
4. Learn how to compose a photograph in order to tell a more captivating story: create visual depth, frame your subject, anticipate the right moment, shoot from all angles, capture the details, and when to shoot close and when to get the bigger picture.
5. Receive tips for working with families during the shoot, such as knowing how to put them at ease, knowing when to photograph and when to put the camera down, directing families to activities without posing or manipulating a scene, and working with artificial light when natural light isn't possible.
6. Discuss how to cull and edit to be able to get to the essence of the client's shoot.

Field Trip - Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard (Styled Shoot and Dinner)
Limited Capacity seats available

MEET AT 4:30 AT MARRIOTT BUS DEPARTURE ZONE.
Join us for this premium field trip which will include shooting styled models, a delicious gourmet dinner, and time to socialize while experiencing the natural beauty of Texas!

The beautiful Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard (https://www.sandyoaks.com/) will be the setting for an evening of shooting with a variety of styled models and photography leaders, as well as dinner and time to socialize while strolling the grounds of this beautiful olive orchard ranch. No matter what genre you shoot or where you are on your photography journey, you will cherish this time to put into practice everything that you learned at Click Away, spend time with new and old friends, and shoot styled models in a gorgeous and unique location unlike what most of us get to experience back home.

The schedule and lineup includes styled shooting from 5:30pm-7:30pm (during gorgeous golden hour light!) with the following leaders and model groups:

Senior girl - led by Monica Wilkinson
Mother and daughter - led by Kellie Bieser
Sisters - led by Kristy Dooley
Brothers - led by Kristin Dokoza
Couple - led by Michelle Turner

Models will be styled to help ensure that you shoot stunning, portfolio quality images that look amazing! Attendee numbers will be kept low (just 53 total, so approximately 10 per model group at any given time) so that you get ample opportunity to rotate through and photograph each of the model groups. The Olive Orchard offers many shooting locations and backdrops to create a variety of imagery, all during stunning golden hour light, so you can walk away with gorgeous, varied, and truly unique photos. After the styled shoot, we'll sit down for dinner, wine, and socializing (which is sure to include new connections, forming of friendships, and lots of laughter!). Food and beverages will include:

- A seasonal garden salad fresh from Sandy Oak's garden
- Chicken Puttanesca with Polenta (Puttanesca is an Italian tomato sauce with olives and capers)
- Olive Oil Cake Parfait with pomegranate, strawberry sauce with whipped cream
- Two glasses of Fall Creek Wine (Choice of red or white)
- Plus, bread, water, iced tea and coffee

About Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard:
One of the first commercial olive orchards in Texas, Sandy Oaks is 20 minutes south of San Antonio. While best known for the olive trees, olive oil and the various olive oil and olive leaf based skin care products it produces, Sandy Oaks is also celebrated for its emphasis on hospitality and educating the public on the benefits and various uses of olive oil. The main orchard itself covers a 40-acre tract of the ranch, with some 11,000 trees planted among the massive live oaks dotting the property. A nursery holds up to 10,000 or more olive seedlings and shoots at any one time. Sandy stocks the trees to expand her orchard and to sell to others who would like to join in the adventure of growing olive trees.

Seating/Participation is very limited for the special premium field trip with styled shooting so reserve your spot before it is sold out!
