Seeing With Your Heart and Mind: Golden Hour Experience (Jan Tyler)

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity seats available

In this Golden Hour Shooting Experience with Jan Tyler, you will learn how to slow down and fully survey your world before actually pressing the shutter. You will be encouraged to shoot with a Lensbaby or to shoot in manual focus throughout this session. In this program, you will experiment with in-camera techniques to help achieve a particular vision as well as discuss how to create textures and overlays for use in future post-processing. Attendees are encouraged to bring a Lensbaby if they have one.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn to use your heart and mind to “see” the world instead of relying solely your eyes; learn to use all of your senses to enhance the overall artistic vision of an image.
2. Learn to create images that “speak” to the viewer as they show the viewer how the photographer and/or the subject felt in the created image and eliciting an emotional response from the viewer.
3. Add emotional depth to landscapes and macro work; create meaningful, thought-provoking, and emotive portraiture.
4. Learn to incorporate lens selection as a means to enhance their artistic vision. (While the use of a Lensbaby is not required, it is highly encouraged.)
5. Learn to use creative in-camera techniques to reach your artistic vision.
6. Discuss how to create textures and overlays to help enhance your artistic visions in future post processing.

This Golden Hour Shooting Experience will take place at La Villita Historic Arts Village (just a short walk from the Marriott Rivercenter). Located on the south bank of the San Antonio River, La Villita Historic Arts Village was one of San Antonio’s first neighborhoods. It was originally a settlement of primitive huts for the Spanish soldiers stationed at the Mission San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo). In 1939, as ground broke on the San Antonio River Walk development, city leaders acted to preserve this colorful part of San Antonio’s history.

Today La Villita is a thriving art community that houses several shops, galleries, and cafes with a wonderful ambiance in the evening. It also gives you great river access at one of the widest points of the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk. You’ll find several opportunities to capture color — many of the buildings have interesting walls/trim allowing for great framing opportunities and striking color palettes. You’ll likely have the feeling that you are in a small village with the tree- and shop-lined paths.
